Aimee Copeland’s left leg has been amputated, and her parents say she will likely lose her fingers as well after the infection spread rapidly through her body. Aimee is fighting a rare flesh-eating infection.

Family members are encouraged. Aimee’s chance of recovery is improving, the Associated Press reports.

The 24-year-old graduate student has been in critical condition at an Augusta hospital after the bacteria took hold in a cut she received while zip-lining over a river.

“Fierce and cruel is the disease that Aimee is dealing with,” says a Christian pastor. “All diseases for that matter are not given to us from God. It is an attack from the enemy of our souls. Let’s pray for divine healing for Aimee,” he adds.

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:24
